The Marpac Sleepmate 980a Electro Mechanical Sound Conditioner creates white noise, the soothing sound of rushing air, to help control unwanted, distracting noise so you can sleep and rest better.

Because you need rest to be at your best every day, SleepMate white noise machine should be part of your sleep environment. SleepMate creates a soft, soothing sound that helps block out intermittent or continual noise which can interfere with your ability to sleep. Ideal for everyone from infants to elders.

Many people use appliances not designed for masking noise. Electric fans can circulate too much air in cool weather, humidifiers and/or vaporisers produce moisture where it may not be needed.

The tone and volume of the sound are controlled by simply rotating the "cap" and "collar" of the housing. This "white noise" sound effectively masks unwanted noises and creates a sense of calm, making it easier to concentrate, relax and/or sleep.

Everybody in our house uses them. I have purchased 4 now and we love them. Works great for kids, blocks out birds, dogs barking, noisy neighbours. I had one rattle and returned it with no hassles at all, very accommodating. I recommend this to everybody.

Whilst they definitely work for the little ones, we were disappointed that one stopped working and the other has always had a rattle to it. Our $9 fans from Bunnings have outlasted these, although to be fair they get used about 12 hours a day. And we probably should have sent the rattly one back while it was still under warranty and despite the rattle its still working after nearly two years. So I'm giving them an average rating. For the price they should be bullet proof.

I found that it doesnt block dogs barking or even the TV in next room, it sits on my beside table and only if I sit the thing on the mattress next to my ear does it drown anything out, it needs to be louder, it has had no impact at all back to using my fan
Good but takes time to get used to

I've had mixed sleeping nights with the unit on, some were straight sleeps, some were interrupted.

Now I mainly use it for short naps or to drown out the background noise. It doesn't completely block the outside noise like I expected, instead it just provides a constant white noise to focus on which makes external noise tolerable.

From day 1 my machine has been rattling a bit, unsure why, it's liveable but obviously not ideal since I paid close to $100 for such an item.
No rattles like with a fan after many nights of use

Very reliable and consistent little unit and so much better than a fan. But could be a little quieter even on the lowest setting.

I highly recommend this product for anyone who wants some help falling asleep and masking unwanted noises. This is really the best thing I have bought for my health and sanity in a long time! It really does a great job and has far exceeded my expectations with its effectiveness.

This unit is very clever. We usually have a fan on in summer but needed something for winter. This is a great solution, well done!

The unit is excellent .The only improvement we would like is to be able to turn down quieter.

Very happy with the unit. Have been using a fan to mask noise for years, but fans tend to develop rattles and are not so great in winter. The sleepmate delivers what is advertised. Very happy with purchase.
