About Bambi (Bambi Enterprises)

Mack's is the undisputed heavyweight champion of the hearing protection industry, widely recognized as the #1 doctor-recommended earplug brand in the United States. Founded in 1962 by musician Raymond Benner, the company (McKeon Products) originally began by acquiring a small clay earplug business, but Benner’s breakthrough came when he reinvented the product using moldable silicone. This created the legendary Mack's Pillow Soft® Silicone Earplugs, the orange packaging found in virtually every pharmacy and swimming pool worldwide.

Unlike foam plugs that expand inside the ear canal, Mack’s silicone plugs are unique because they mold over the ear opening, creating a waterproof and airtight seal without pressure. While they are most famous for preventing "swimmer's ear" and blocking out snoring spouses, Mack's product line has expanded to include high-performance foam plugs, musician’s filters, and sleep masks, catering to everyone from light sleepers to heavy metal drummers.

Mission, Vision & Innovation

Mack’s mission is to "supply the highest quality hearing protection to the world." They operate on the vision that hearing preservation should be comfortable and non-invasive. Their defining innovation is the "Cover Only" Philosophy. Recognizing that many people find inserting objects into their ear canal painful or irritating, Mack’s developed their moldable silicone putty to seal the ear externally.

This innovation makes them the only safe choice for users with ear tubes or sensitive canals. Furthermore, they have innovated in the foam category with their Slim Fit and Dreamgirl ranges, which are specifically engineered with a smaller diameter and softer foam to accommodate smaller ear canals, addressing a major complaint women often have with standard industrial earplugs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use Mack's Silicone Earplugs?

The most important rule is: Do not insert them into the ear canal.

  • Roll the silicone ball into a round shape (do not elongate it).
  • Place it over the ear opening.
  • Flatten it with your finger to cover the opening and create a seal. If you push the silicone inside the canal, it can break off and require medical removal. They are designed to sit on the outside like a lid.
Can I reuse the silicone earplugs?

Yes. Mack's Pillow Soft silicone plugs are reusable. You can typically use them about 5 times or until the silicone becomes dirty or loses its tackiness (stickiness). Once they no longer stick to the skin effectively, they will not create a waterproof seal and should be discarded.

Are they safe for swimming?

Yes. Mack's Silicone Earplugs are the #1 doctor-recommended brand for preventing otitis externa (Swimmer's Ear) and surfer's ear. Because they create a waterproof seal over the ear opening, they prevent water from entering the canal, making them essential for swimmers, especially those with ear tubes or perforated eardrums.

What is the difference between Mack's Silicone and Foam plugs?
  • Silicone (Pillow Soft): Molds over the ear. Lower Noise Reduction Rating (NRR ~22dB) but waterproof and extremely comfortable for pressure-sensitive ears. Best for swimming and moderate noise.
  • Foam (Snore Blockers/Ultra Soft): Expands inside the ear canal. Higher NRR (~32-33dB). Best for very loud environments (concerts, shooting) or blocking out loud snoring.
Why are the "Dreamgirl" earplugs pink?

It is not just about the color. The Dreamgirl (and the Slim Fit) range is specifically designed for smaller ear canals. Standard foam plugs can be too thick and cause aching pressure for many women or teenagers. These plugs are hollowed out or made thinner to provide the same high noise blocking (NRR 30dB) with significantly less pressure.
