Restful sleep and great mornings for your kids

Sleep is vital for your child’s growth and development. Depending on age, your children need between 10 and 13 hours of quality sleep each day—and the best way to promote quality sleep is with quality bedding.

The ideal quilts for kids are:

  • Lightweight - kids sleep much warmer than adults
  • Allergen-free and asthma friendly
  • Single bed size - you can use an adult quilt

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the best quilt for a child with asthma or allergies?

Tencel and Ingeo (corn fibre) quilts are the strongest options for allergy-prone children. Both carry the National Asthma Council Australia's Sensitive Choice approval. They are naturally antibacterial and resist dust mite growth without chemical treatment. The Bambi Ingeo Kids Bedding Pack is the most practical choice as it includes a waterproof mattress protector and pillow protector alongside the quilt and pillow — protecting the entire sleep surface. Browse allergy sensitive quilts.

What GSM weight is right for a child?

200–350 GSM covers most needs. A 200 GSM quilt (like the MiniJumbuk Cool Dreamers) suits summer and warm climates. A 325–350 GSM quilt (like the MiniJumbuk Dreamers or Herington My First Quilt) works as an all-season option for most of Australia. Heavy winter quilts (500+ GSM) are generally not recommended for young children — if extra warmth is needed, layer a blanket on top of a mid-weight quilt.

When should a toddler transition from a sleeping bag to a quilt?

Most children transition between 2 and 3 years of age, depending on development and mobility. A cot-sized quilt (100 × 130 cm) is the appropriate first quilt. Ensure the quilt is lightweight enough for the child to push off if they overheat, and always follow safe sleep guidelines for the child's age. Browse swaddles and sleeping bags for the pre-quilt stage.

Can I use an adult quilt for a child?

For older children and teenagers (roughly 10+), yes. Any adult quilt in single or double size will work. For younger children, kids-specific quilts are preferable because they are designed with appropriate weight, loft, and sizing for smaller bodies. The key is ensuring the quilt is not too heavy for the child to move or push off independently.
