Coverlets are lightweight bedspread, generally lighter than Comforters, and are a great alternative to a lightweight quilt in summer. People generally use them alone with a sheet layered underneath.

Comforters are generally thicker, warmer and cosier than a Coverlet, and are great in cooler months but don't have the same warmth as a quilt. Again people use them alone without an additional cover, typically with a flat sheet layered underneath.
