Most Crane humidifiers are "filter-free," meaning you do not need to buy expensive replacement wicks to operate them. However, if you have "hard water" (water with high mineral content), Crane recommends using their Demineralization Filter Cartridge. This screws into the tank cap and removes minerals from the water to prevent "white dust" from settling on your furniture.

It depends on the model. The standard Crane Drop and Adorable Animal humidifiers are made of plastics that can be damaged by essential oils if put directly into the tank. However, many newer Crane models feature a separate Aroma Tray or are specifically labeled as "Warm & Cool Mist" units that are oil-compatible. Always check the manual; if your unit doesn't have a designated tray, do not add oils.

Hygiene is critical for any water-based appliance. Crane recommends emptying the water tank and basin daily and letting them air dry. For a deep clean, you should disinfect the unit weekly using a solution of white vinegar and water. This removes any mineral buildup and ensures the mist remains healthy and odor-free.

For safety and energy efficiency, Crane humidifiers are equipped with an automatic shut-off sensor. When the water level in the tank gets too low, the unit will automatically turn off to prevent the nebulizer from overheating. This allows you to run the humidifier overnight without worrying about monitoring the water level.
