About Purflo

Purflo is a pioneering British brand that is widely credited with creating the category of "breathable" baby bedding. Founded in 1996 by concerned parents who wanted to reduce the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), the brand launched with a revolutionary foam-free, fully washable, and breathable mattress developed in conjunction with Professor Peter Fleming, a world-leading expert on infant health.

Today, Purflo is recognized globally as the "Safe Sleep" authority, bridging the gap between medical safety standards and consumer nursery design. They are best known for the Sleep Tight Baby Bed, a breakthrough product that was the first portable "nest" of its kind to be certified safe for unsupervised, overnight sleeping, solving the safety concerns often associated with traditional cushioned sleep pods.

Mission, Vision & Innovation

Purflo’s mission is to create "cleaner, safer, and healthier sleeping environments for babies." Their vision is that parents should never have to choose between convenience (like a portable baby nest) and safety. Innovation is the DNA of the brand, specifically their proprietary PurAir™ Breathable Technology. By using specialized 3D mesh and air-permeable fibers, Purflo ensures that even if a baby rolls over and presses their face against the side of the bed or mattress, air can still circulate freely, significantly reducing the risk of suffocation and overheating.

Additionally, they incorporate Amicor Pure™ fibers into their linings, a hypoallergenic material that naturally prevents the build-up of bacteria and dust mites, making their products essential for families with a history of asthma or eczema.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Sleep Tight Baby Bed safe for overnight sleep?

Yes. This is the critical distinction between the Purflo Sleep Tight Baby Bed and a standard "baby nest" or "pod." The Sleep Tight Bed has been rigorously tested to relevant safety standards (including side wall rigidity and breathability) and is explicitly certified for unsupervised, overnight sleep. It features a firm, flat base essential for safety, whereas many other soft, squashy nests are for supervised daytime rest only.

What is the difference between the "Sleep Tight Bed" and the "Breathable Nest"?
  • Sleep Tight Baby Bed: Features a firm, flat base and rigid sides. Safe for overnight sleeping and naps without supervision. Suitable from birth to 8 months.
  • Breathable Nest: A softer, cushioned pod designed for supervised lounging, tummy time, and daytime naps (when a parent is watching). It is generally not recommended for overnight sleep due to the softer sides.
Can I wash the mattress?

Yes. One of Purflo’s founding innovations is the fully washable mattress. Unlike standard foam mattresses which can trap bacteria and vomit, Purflo’s hollow-frame and fiber mattresses can be disassembled and washed in the machine (or the fiber core rinsed down), ensuring a 100% sanitary sleep surface for every nap.

How do I dress my baby in a Purflo bed?

Because Purflo products are highly breathable, they do not retain heat in the same way a solid foam pod might. You should dress your baby according to the room temperature, just as you would in a cot. Purflo offers a range of Sleep Bags with specific TOG ratings (0.5 to 2.5 TOG) designed to be used safely within their beds to prevent loose blankets from covering the baby’s face.

What is "Amicor Pure"?

Amicor Pure is an intelligent fiber used in Purflo’s padding and covers. It is approved by Allergy UK. The fiber has a slow-release technology that prevents house dust mites and bacteria from colonizing the bedding. This reduces the bio-burden in the baby's sleep environment, which is believed to help prevent the development of allergies and asthma.
