Blueair's Dual Protection filters utilize activated carbon sourced from coconut shells. This is a high-purity, high-porosity powdered form without any chemical additives. These filters serve as an upgraded replacement for the older SmokeStop filters, which incorporated activated carbon treated with additives such as copper oxide and zinc oxide to improve gas and odor removal.

The Dual Protection filters outperform the previous ones primarily through their coconut-derived carbon, which eliminates gaseous pollutants—including volatile organic compounds (VOCs from sources like paints or cleaners), smoke, odors, exhaust fumes, and various chemicals—up to four times faster than standard or earlier carbon filters, all while maintaining excellent particle filtration.

This enhanced speed stems from the natural high porosity and extensive surface area of coconut shell carbon, enabling superior adsorption without the need for chemical enhancements. Moreover, the lack of additives makes these filters more eco-friendly and potentially safer for prolonged use, as they avoid introducing unnecessary substances into the airflow. Ultimately, this design delivers faster, more effective gas and odor reduction in a compact filter format, without impacting airflow or energy consumption.
