What is a White Noise Machine?

While it is a little counterintuitive to make noise to fall asleep, it's also highly effective. Popular Science describes white noise as “A consistent noise that comes out evenly across all hearable frequencies.” Essentially, white noise is a sound frequency that one hears as a gentle hum or hiss, and is similar to television or radio static, ocean surf, or wind rustling through trees, for example.

White noise machines work producing a constant and relaxing sounds that help mask the sounds and noises that distract you at night and keep you from falling asleep, as well as those noises that would otherwise wake you up at night. 

When a noise wakes you up in the night, it's not the noise itself that wakes you up but the sudden change or inconsistencies in noise that alert you and wake you up.

Should you ever experience problems with the proper function of your Sound Oasis S-650, you may need to reset the unit’s computer controlled electronics.

To do so, you need to use a toothpick or a paper clip to press the small black reset button located in the base of the battery compartment for 3-5 seconds with the power on.

To do so, unplug the unit (if plugged in) and remove the batteries from the battery compartment for 30 seconds.

When charging your Sleepphones, please make sure of the following:

• Ensure that you are using the original charging cable supplied with the SleepPhones

• Please ensure that the charging plug is fully inserted into the Bluetooth module

• Ensure that you are using a USB Charger that supplies more than 1A charging capacity – charging on your laptop would not be sufficient.

• The red light will come on while charging and will turn off once the module is fully charged.

• Make sure you are pressing down on the on/off power button for long enough for the unit to turn on (about 3 seconds until it blinks slowly)

You can put a few stitches into the front of the headband to adjust it to a size that fits you.

According to Marpac, the smell you are experiencing is due to the newness of the machine, and it is typically gone in about a week.

They suggest letting your machine run in an open-air environment (such as a garage or a room with an open window). Opening the vents to full capacity and setting the unit on high will help speed up the process of eliminating the smell.

Take note:

1. To put the Bluetooth module into pairing mode, press the middle button (power button) for 5 seconds or more. If you press it for less a slowly blinking red light will show

2. Once in pairing mode, it will show a rapidly blinking red light.

3. Select Bluetooth devices on the music player device you wish to pair the SleepPhones with.

4. Then just choose Acoustic Sheep from your device to pair it.
