Strawberry Thief is the pattern most people picture when they think of William Morris. Thrushes dip into ripe strawberries among winding leaves and flowers, printed here in deep indigo with warm accents throughout. A story from Morris's own garden
Morris drew the pattern in 1883 after watching thrushes slip under the nets to steal fruit from the kitchen garden at Kelmscott Manor, his country home in Oxfordshire. He told his gardener to leave the birds alone.
