About SleepPhones

SleepPhones, affectionately known as "pyjamas for your ears," is the original and most trusted brand of sleep headphones. Created in 2007 by family physician Dr. Wei-Shin Lai and her husband, video game developer Jason Wolfe, the brand was born out of personal necessity when Dr. Lai struggled to fall back asleep after late-night patient calls. Finding traditional earbuds too painful for side-sleeping and bulky over-ear headphones impossible to lay on, they invented a comfortable alternative at their kitchen table.

Today, manufactured by their company AcousticSheep, SleepPhones are a global phenomenon. They are the ultimate audio solution for people dealing with insomnia, tinnitus, noisy environments, or snoring partners, allowing users to listen to white noise, guided meditations, or audiobooks in complete comfort all night long.

Mission, Vision & Innovation

AcousticSheep's mission is to "create a world of happy, healthy, well-rested people with our comfortable headphones." Their vision is to be the premier natural sleep aid, standing alongside melatonin and white noise machines as a drug-free way to improve sleep hygiene. The core innovation of SleepPhones is its Patented Headband Design.

Instead of hard plastic sitting inside the ear canal, SleepPhones utilize ultra-thin, flat, and fully padded speakers encased within a soft, stretchy headband. This allows side sleepers to rest their head directly on a pillow without any pressure points. Furthermore, they innovated with their proprietary SheepCloud™ Fabrics, offering two specialized options: a warm, cozy fleece for winter and an ultra-lightweight, moisture-wicking "Breeze" fabric for hot sleepers or those experiencing night sweats.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are SleepPhones different from regular headphones or earbuds for sleep?

SleepPhones are specifically engineered for sleeping, which means they solve the fundamental problem that makes regular headphones and earbuds unsuitable for bed: comfort when lying down. The speakers are ultra-thin and flat — sewn into padded fabric patches inside a soft, stretchy headband — so there is nothing hard or protruding pressing against your ears when you rest your head on a pillow or roll onto your side. Earbuds fall out, and over-ear headphones are impossible to sleep in comfortably; SleepPhones stay put and feel like wearing nothing at all.

Can I use SleepPhones if I'm a side sleeper?

Yes — SleepPhones were literally invented by a side sleeper for side sleepers. The flat, thin speaker design means there is no uncomfortable pressure point when you lie on your side, which is the single biggest advantage they have over every other type of headphone. The headband holds the speakers in position against your ears regardless of how much you move during the night, so you don't need to worry about them shifting out of place.

What can I listen to with SleepPhones?

SleepPhones connect to any Bluetooth-enabled device (wireless models) or any 3.5mm audio device (Classic corded model), meaning you can listen to anything — sleep meditation apps, white noise, music, podcasts, audiobooks, ASMR content, guided breathing exercises, or relaxation soundscapes. Many users also find them effective for blocking out a partner's snoring by playing masking sounds at a low volume directly into their ears.

Are SleepPhones machine washable?

Yes. The headband is fully machine washable, and the speaker module is designed to be removed before washing — making hygiene simple and convenient. The headband itself is made from either SheepCloud™ fleece (soft and cosy, ideal for cooler sleepers and winter) or a lightweight Breeze fabric (moisture-wicking and breathable, better suited to warmer climates or hot sleepers). Both fabrics are hypoallergenic and RoHS/CE compliant.

What SleepPhones models are available?

The SleepPhones range includes the SleepPhones Classic (corded, 3.5mm connection), the SleepPhones Wireless (Bluetooth with up to 24-hour battery life), and the SleepPhones Effortless (Bluetooth with convenient induction charging). All models are available in multiple sizes and fabric options to suit different head sizes, sleep preferences, and climates. The speakers in all models are adjustable to fit your unique ear position, and the removable design makes replacement or washing simple.
